Staff Chief Engineer – Luxury Mega Yacht

The primary responsibility of the Staff Chief Engineer is to be fully conversant with all of the Chief Engineers responsibilities and must be able to assume the position of Chief Engineer if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as Chief Engineer’s Deputy and second in charge of the Technical Department and responsible work leader for all work that has to be carried out in the Engine/Technical Rooms in close cooperation with all other Engineers
  • Staff Chief Engineer is the leader of the onboard Maintenance Team
  • Dedicated person for the “Water Safety Plan”
  • Promote, and support Work Place Safety (WPS) ensuring Safe Work Practices
  • Technical Administrator for “Issuetrax” and the AVO process in general
  • Ensure that all Chemicals are stored, and used, according to safe Industry Standards (Chemical Management) within the Engine Department
  • Support, and promote, CBM (Condition Based Maintenance)
  • Support, and promote, Energy Conservation
  • Safeguard the Environment and ensure all Officers in the Engine dept. do the same. Be a strong supporter, and promote “Our Green World” initiative
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in all service related matters and keep him informed of significant events and trends pertaining to the operation of the Engine Department and the welfare and discipline of the department personnel
  • Direct reports received from First Engineer Hotel, First Engineer Engine and the Environmental Engineer providing support where required and updates the Chief Engineer accordingly

 Hiring Requirements

  • Unlimited Chief Engineer License III/2 and all certificates required by STCW95
  • Minimum of 1 year experience sailing as Staff Chief Engineer and/or Chief Engineer on large passenger vessels.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma from accredited maritime Academy or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable with all relevant rules & regulations governing the marine industry. This includes but is not restricted to: SOLAS, MARPOL, DNV-GL, USCG, USPH, ILO, MLC, STCW, etc.
  • AMOS Maintenance, spare part and purchasing routines
  • Classification survey arrangement
  • Port State Control, internal and external audit inspections and criteria.
  • Environmental rules pertaining to MARPOL, and region specific to itinerary
  • To speak, read and write English clearly and distinctly
  • Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
