The Editor’s primary responsibility is the coordination, production and quality control of all written onboard-published communications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Editorial Operations
- Publish all of The World’s printed materials.
- Responsible for the editorial oversight of all electronic publications
- Review all documents to ensure correct information including all events taking place, new trends and all advertising that brings the destination alive.
- Ensure there are no spelling or grammatical errors before publishing
- Conduct general research for and events in upcoming ports for internal publications
- Liaise with departments to establish weekly and monthly publications’ schedules
- Develop printed formats as required by other departments.
- Coordinate and ensure Corporate standards of all printed matters as well as timely production
- Communicate and work closely with the F&B department to design and create menus when required
- Regularly back up all pertinent computer files
- Ensure all reports are completed and submitted on time.
- Maintain a constant communication flow with the Program Manager regarding printing and publishing matters
- Perform basic daily maintenance on printers and other editing equipment.
- Fully utilize MMS to track purchases and request orders.
- Conduct informal inventory twice a month
Resident and Guest Service
- Exceed Residents’ and Guests’ expectations in every aspect of luxury service in accordance with Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) standards
- Continuously review the operation and make recommendations to enhance the product; follow up and resolve Residents and Guests issues; conduct regular in-depth inspections of all operational areas; submit AVOs and ICANs; follow up on ICANs relevant to the division
- Contribute to the development of the onboard product and our commitment to “bringing the destination alive” by creating and delivering events and experiences for Residents and Guests
General
- Develop, monitor and achieve company, department and divisional goals and objectives; effectively communicate operational updates through daily line ups and divisional meetings.
- Assist with the set-up, decoration and breakdown of venues for Program events when required
- Take charge of new hires onboarding, provide tour of working areas, introduction to the team, follow up on new hire on-the-job training plan, review thoroughly job description with new hire and assist in their integration into the team
- Ensure the Time & Attendance Policy (ILO #180) is adhered to and timesheets are closely reviewed daily to ensure accuracy of work and rest hours and overtime (if applicable) for all subordinates
- Ensure all areas are maintained in accordance with Company Policies, Public Health, Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety & Environmental regulations; execute policies and procedures as appropriate to the position; execute safety duties as per the Emergency Plan and Station Bill, participate in In Port Manning as required
- Conduct and participate in Company trainings as required.
- Assist with Ship tours, Zodiac landings, Marina days, Expeditions, and other activities when required.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Adhere to the hotel operating and revenue budgets.
- Place orders according to the provisioning schedule and based on budgetary guidelines; maintain par stock levels; minimize waste and breakage
- Monitor overtime and ensure team members are scheduled according to operational needs

SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Able to read, write and speak fluently in English
- BA/BS 3-4 years Degree in Communication, Media or Publishing (or foreign equivalent) preferred.
- Degree (or foreign equivalent) in English or Journalism preferred.
- Degree in Graphic design (or foreign equivalent) preferred
- Proofreading and editing level 4 Diploma required (can be completed onboard)
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience on a luxury cruise ship, private country club or similar, luxury hotel or resort
- Experience in the following positions preferred: Sub-Editor, Layout Specialist, Copywriter or Feature Writer, Printer
- Previous editing and writing experience in a high-volume, multi-department atmosphere.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
- Excellent organizational skills
- One additional language (German, French, Italian, Spanish) preferred
- Advanced computer skills to include Word, Excel and Outlook and In Design essential
- Working knowledge of point of sales systems, inventory management systems, Fidelio and computerized reservation systems
- Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Graphic Design is essential.
- Knowledge of following peripherals: scanner, CD ROM drive, high-resolution thermal printers
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
- Ability to work seven (7) days a week for an extended period, including day or night, weekends and holidays.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, all Crew are required to stand, walk long distances on the Ship and may include the repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down the stairs and lifting up to 23 kilograms.
- All Team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
- Work within different temperature changes – indoors to outdoors.
- Ability to pass STCW safety course.
- Able to live harmoniously in close quarters.
