The Chief Accountant’s primary responsibility is to manage the financial operation onboard. This position ensures that internal controls and procedures are adhered to, which helps maintain the integrity of the Ship’s overall financial reporting including but not limited to, credit card transactions, cash management, Property Management System and Materials Management System. This also includes financial control procedures for all positions having control over company asset and consequently requires regular auditing. Additionally, the Chief Accountant oversees also the financial aspect of night auditing and payroll as well as assisting each division with their annual budget and monthly financial review.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial aspects of onboard operations
- Provide direction and guidance to the Receptionist doing night auditing, the Front Office team on accounting related responsibilities and Crew Officer for payroll, including preparation of commissions
- Conduct a periodic audit of Hotel Stores, payroll and related postings and wage scale set-up and communicate and implement corrective action steps in an effective, yet diplomatic fashion
- Conduct a periodic settlement of cash floats for Front Office Team including night auditing as well as for the Crew Officer and manage and maintain in-house accounts, systems accounts, Crew Enrichment funds and contractor accounts
- Track, monitor and reconcile all cash and credit card transactions and prepare the required financial reports
- Initiate a passenger night budget file and coordinate with the Department and Division Heads to create the annual budget; coordinate the yearly budget preparation together with the Department and Division Heads
- Supervise and participate in the preparation of financial statements and reports and review monthly forecasts and ensure financial reports are completed in a timely manner
- Monitor daily revenue reports, passenger night reports and credit card settlement reports
- Oversee and assist in internal and external yearly financial audits and forecast cash requirements to meet payroll and all vessel funding needs
- Ensure that all revenues and expenses are properly recorded against the appropriate budget, and the variations from the budgeted amounts are properly documented
- Manage and maintain Residents’ accounts and handle account related queries.
- Liaise with the Division Head in clarifying Residents’ account related charges
Hiring Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience on a luxury cruise ship, in a private country club or similar, luxury hotel or resort
- BA/BS 3–4-year degree in Accounting or foreign equivalency required
- Degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred
- Strong administrative, planning and organizational skills required
- Great attention to detail and high degree of accuracy required
- Ability to perform financial analysis and reporting
- Adept in Information Systems
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and competent knowledge of MS Office
- Working knowledge of point of sales systems, inventory management systems, Fidelio and computerized reservation systems
- Able to read, write and speak fluently in English
- One additional language (German, French, Italian, Spanish) preferred
