The primary responsibility of the Vice President, Marine and Technical Operations is to oversee all Marine & Technical aspects related to the safe and reliable operation of The World including all Dry-docks and refurbishment projects.
The focus of the position is to provide both strategic leadership for long term planning as well as day to day guidance to ensure vessel regulatory compliance and sound ship management practices while prioritizing the safety of life at sea and the protection of the environments in which the ship operates. This role will work closely with onboard and shore side senior leadership to ensure the execution of maintenance, repairs, refurbishments and Dry-docks and ensure compliance with all international regulations and safety specifications.
The Vice President, Marine and Technical Operations also acts as the Company Security Officer and Alternate Designated Person Ashore (DPA).
Responsibilities
- Create a global vision & culture in relation to all Marine & Technical functions
- Lead the Captains and their teams to create and maintain a culture of safety & service excellence
- Supervises the shoreside Marine & Technical teams consisting of the Director, Maritime Operations, the Manager, Refurbishment and the Manager, SMS & Administration
- Drive and develop the short and long-term Marine & Technical goals & objectives and operating and capital budgets necessary to achieve the strategic and financial goals of the organization
- Work strategically with senior leadership to determine planning, expenditure and execution of annual capital expenditure and refurbishment projects
- Develop the 10-year Capital plan
- Oversee the planning and execution of Dry-dock related projects
- Guide the Director, Maritime and ship’s senior Marine & Technical leadership in preparation of specifications for capital projects, refurbishments and Dry-docks
- Oversee the Resident Apartment refurbishment program
- Oversee the Medical department on board, working closely with the Medical Consultant
- Build and maintain key relationships with Residents, Board of Directors and Committee members, strategic partners and other departments both ship and shore side
- Write and present Board of Director reports as needed
- Responsible for the company’s SMS system
- Work closely with classification and flag states, ensure that all required annual audits and drills are scheduled and completed
- Attend the ship as required to maintain an in-depth knowledge of its condition
- Create a professional atmosphere of mutual respect and support among the team in order to maintain the highest levels of organizational flexibility, productivity and integrity
Hiring Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Nautical or related field of study or equivalent marine, engineering or electrical degree OR licensed engineer with minimum of 10 years’ experience as Port Engineer or Ship Superintendent, Master’s Degree preferred
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a leadership role in marine operations is required
- Minimum of 10 years’ practical engineering experience and engineering/nautical management onboard ships or in the shore side power generation industry
- Significant experience with Marine Classification societies and maritime regulatory bodies (IMO/ILO/Flag State/Port State, etc.)
- Experience with AMOS W is preferred
- Chief Engineer’s License (unlimited), Captains license or equivalent experience
- Experience with dry dock and refurbishment activities required
- Solid knowledge of marine technical and regulatory compliance and sound budgeting skills
- Frequent travel to the ship in various locations required
- Prior experience as Chief Engineer or Captain and managing complex ship modifications projects and with cruise ships required
- Excellent interpersonal skills; hands-on, proactive self-manager; demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines, and taking initiative but knowing when to consult colleagues and co-workers; facilitates team-oriented solutions in a fast-paced work environment
