The 1st Officer’s primary responsibility is the planning and execution of the voyage, ensuring the vessel is safely and efficiently navigated to the next port of call, while maintaining all the necessary navigational/safety publications, charts, flags, rules and regulations. The position ensures that Bridge maintenance and inventories are in order before the beginning of each voyage. The 1st Officer will act as a watch-keeping officer and will keep the Bridge Team, including the Master/Staff Captain, informed of any warnings or corrections made to the set itinerary.

Responsibilities

  • Watchkeeping Officer
  • Ensure that all necessary navigational publications, charts, flags and other supplies are up to date and the equipment is in a good working order before the beginning of each voyage
  • Develop Sea and Port passage plans as directed by the Master
  • Keep a library on the bridge with all necessary rules and regulations
  • Keep track of all Bridge maintenance and inventories in the AMOS system
  • Assist the Chief Officer with crew safety training when so required
  • Responsible to train new Bridget team members in the proper use of the ships’ bridge equipment

Hiring Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a similar position on board a cruise ship with a world-wide sailing itinerary
  • Appropriate licenses and certificates as required by International & National Conventions & Regulations
  • Unlimited Master’s license and documented experience from passenger vessels
  • Knowledge and experience using current navigational electronics and computerized equipment
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Excellent computer skills
