The responsibilities of the Carpenter / Upholsterer will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Maintenance and repair of all parts of the ship as dictated by the Sr Carpenter and Chief Officer
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when so required
  • Always apply caution when working with power tools and other dangerous equipment
  • Help the Sr. Carpenter keeping up the inventory of tools, spare parts and consumables
  • It is the responsibility of every crewmember to perform duties according to the Superior Officer’s instruction; the work should be carried out in a safe and professional manner in order to keep the ship’s equipment at the highest level of safe operating condition
  • Be familiar with the Safety Management System and have a full understanding of his responsibilities in the Safety Organization as per the Emergency Plan

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Documented good craftsmanship and good general knowledge of everything within the scope of his work
  • Relevant STCW2010 courses
  • Fluent in spoken English

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to work 7 days a week for a minimum period for extended period of time.
  • While performing the essential functions of this job, all team members are required to stand; walk long distances on the ship; use hands to touch, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear, taste and smell. All vessel positions require repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down stairs and lifting more than 25 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
  • Assist with zodiac landings, Marina days and Expeditions when required.
  • Work within different temperature changes—indoors to outdoors.
  • Able to pass basic safety course.
