The Director, Maritime Operations is responsible to manage the day to day operational aspects of the Maritime organization including safety, compliance and efficiency. Dry-dock and capital projects are an integral part of the role and this position ensures successful on-time, on-budget delivery of these projects.

Reporting to the VP, Marine & Technical Operations, the Director of Maritime Operations works directly with the shipboard Marine & Technical team, shoreside leadership and vendors to ensure alignment to strategy, budget and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day to day operational aspects of Maritime Operations, projects and scope
  • Reviews project proposals and plans to determine time frame, budget, procedures for accomplishing, staffing requirements, and any other resources to ensure successful completion of the project
  • Develops Dry-dock plans and specifications in close cooperation with Senior Project Manager, Shipboard Leadership and external subject matter experts
  • Liaises with Legal counsel to facilitate contract management for Dry-dock related matters
  • Visits the ship regularly to conduct inspections, assessing effectiveness of ships Marine & Technical Operation, forecast of new projects and maintenance needs as well as management of ongoing projects
  • Works closely with VP Marine & Technical Operations, CFO and COO to ensure projects meet expectations
  • Ensures the Shipboard Leadership Team is fully informed and engaged in project planning processes
  • Arranges project planning and preparation workshops at regular intervals with Shipboard Leadership Team and other relevant ships personnel
  • Conducts ship inspections to review technical conditions as well as overall ship appearance
  • Develop and maintain the 10 year capital plan
  • For refurbishments, including Residences, ensure that there are adequate plans and specifications so the Ship and DNV GL are fully aware of the work and applicable approvals are in place
  • Maintain business relationship with Regulatory Authorities (Flag States, Port States, Classification Societies and Public Health)

Hiring Requirements

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working within the Marine & Technical aspect of the cruise industry; onboard cruise ship leadership experience and or “new build” experience highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Marine profession or equivalent
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification a plus
  • Ability to clearly and concisely present technical subjects, experience in presenting in front of groups
  • Strong business & financial acumen, negotiating and cost control skills
  • Proven experience with contract & vendor negotiation
  • Proven efficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Must be able to travel based on job demands and requirements; flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed
